ErP-ready
ErP is a guideline for energy-powered devices. It came into effect in August 2007 and is the basis for a separate law in Germany, the Energie-Betriebene-Produkte-Gesetz (EBPG). ErP requires increased energy efficiency from electronic devices to reduce the negative impact on the environment (such as increased CO2 emissions). ErP ready means that the electronic device affixed with that title complies with the ErP guidelines.
Efficiency
Efficiency (in %) refers to the degree of efficiency a device achieves. This is defined as the ratio between the output power and the supplied power. If a power supply achieves 80% efficiency, then 20% of the energy is lost. That lost energy is primarily issued in the form of thermal energy. High efficiency means better utilisation of the energy and leads to lower energy costs.
